Scavenger Hunt Etiquette – The Dos and Don’ts for a Respectful Hunt

Hey OCMoneyHunters!

It’s awesome to see so many of you out there, embracing the thrill of the hunt and enjoying the surprises we leave around Orange County. As our community grows, we want to make sure everyone has a positive experience. So, let’s talk about some ground rules; think of this as your friendly guide to scavenger hunt etiquette!

Respect Your Fellow Hunters

While it seems simple, please, treat others how you’d want to be treated. Be mindful of other hunters, the environment, and the locations we feature.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Come prepared: Check our Instagram (@OCMoneyHunt – give us a follow if you haven’t already!) for clues and updates. Make sure your phone is charged, and you have any necessary supplies (like a pen and paper for taking notes!).
  • Keep your eyes peeled: The clues can be tricky! Pay close attention to your surroundings and use your detective skills.
  • Patience is key: Sometimes, it takes time to crack the code and locate the hidden treasure. Don’t get discouraged, and enjoy the journey!
  • Be cool when you find it: When you find the money, try not to draw too much attention to yourself. Stealth mode!
  • Leave things as you found them: Don’t litter, and be mindful of any property or natural surroundings.
  • Share your success:  We love seeing your happy faces when you find the loot! Feel free to tag us in your posts and stories on Instagram!
  • Be a good sport: If someone else finds the money first, congratulate them and keep hunting! There’s always more treasure to be found.
  • Most importantly: Have fun! That’s what this is all about! Enjoy the challenge, the adventure, and the thrill of the hunt.

Things to Avoid

  • Don’t mess with stuff: Never damage property or natural surroundings in your quest for the hidden cash.
  • Don’t trash the place: Keep Orange County beautiful! Pack out any trash you bring with you.
  • Don’t spoil the surprise: Keep the fun going for everyone! If there is more than one prize, don’t reveal the hiding spot online or to others.
  • Don’t be a sore loser: If you don’t find the money, don’t get discouraged or take it out on others. Remember, it’s a game!
  • Don’t hog the hunt: If you’ve already found money recently, maybe give others a chance. We want everyone to have the opportunity to participate.
  • Don’t cheat: Don’t try to gain an unfair advantage by using tools or techniques that violate the spirit of the game. Play fair and square!

What if I bump into another hunter at the hiding spot?

Ah, the scavenger hunter’s standoff! It happens. If you arrive at the hiding spot simultaneously with another hunter, here’s the deal:

  • Talk it out: Acknowledge each other and have a quick chat. You might even team up to find the prize!
  • Play fair: If you can’t agree on a way to share or collaborate, consider flipping a coin or playing a quick game like rock-paper-scissors to decide who gets to search first.
  • Be cool: No matter the outcome, be gracious and congratulate the winner.

Keeping it Classy on the Hunt

We want our scavenger hunts to be fun and exciting, but also safe and respectful for everyone involved. Here are some extra things to remember:

  • Keep it down: Especially if you’re hunting in residential areas or near businesses, keep your voices down and avoid causing a disturbance.
  • Respect private property: Only search in public areas or places where you have permission to be.
  • Pay attention: Be aware of traffic, pedestrians, and other potential hazards.
  • Leave no trace: Pack out any trash and leave the area as you found it.

The Bottom Line These guidelines are all about creating a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone. By following these simple tips, we can continue to make scavenger hunts that are fun and rewarding for the entire Orange County community.

Happy Hunting!
